Brief Description: Read William Wynne's Corvair Flight Engines Manual
In my research on the Zenith Zodiac 601XL, I found that a number were flying behind Corvair conversions. I read most of his extensive website and ordered the conversion manual on 6/13/2006. Manual Number 7140 arrived one week later and I read it cover-to-cover in one night.
Since that time, I have been amazed at how many 601XL kit & scratch builders there are who are planning on this powerplant. The cost to complete can range from $3,500 to $7,000, but that is still considerably less than the Continental/Lycoming/Jabiru/Rotax alternatives. This engine has been successfully pulling light airplanes since Bernie Pietenpol started using it in 1960. (Time: 3.5 hours)
