Brief Description:  Started top skin installation

I wish I had a better report about today's work session. The good news first. I'm half-way toward having a hole-drilling template for my final part. That is my way of saying I messed up the first part in a big way. The new 650 top skin has a 20mm tab for the 1st 360mm of the top skin. I was so concerned that the width at the tail would be sufficient that I even mocked up the tail area (1st picture) and decided to add 15mm to the 470mm width shown on the plans. I was so pleased with my planning to avoid having the end too narrow that I inadvertently put the 20mm tab on the back end instead of the front. At that point I could have quit, but decided to make my piece into a no-stress experimental template. Actually it is good I did, because the dimensions on the plans for distances between tops of the bulkheads turned out to be wrong, at least for me. Starting at the back of the plane, they specify 635mm and 840mm between bulkhead tops. I found that to maintain the proper angles, I needed to use 630mm and 865mm. There was plenty of trial and error in that (read "many holes"). Once I got that right, I just started to move down the right side making the necessary holes. Things are going well, so I expect to wrap the tempate up tomorrow. Oh, did I mention that I thought I would make the top skin thicker (.025") to resist denting. When I buy my final piece of aluminum, I'm dropping back to the specified .020" material. The bend on the sides is pretty tight and hard to accomplish smoothly with the thicker material. I may not deserve it, but I'm giving myself a break after a long and less-than-perfect building session.
