Brief Description:  Fabricated vertical tail leading & trailing edge s

After a trip to Aircraft Spruce for more .025" sheets, I laid out, cut and bent the vertical tail trailing & leading edge skins. When I made my 601XL rudder, I did it using the prescribed .016" metal, and every rib line was pronounced as the skins pulled in to meet the ribs, producing a slight creasing. After checking the Matronics archives, I saw that a number of builders (and apparently AMD) have gone with skins that are .025' thick. The weight premium on the rudder may be as much as a pound, but I think it will be worth it to have a more substantial control surface, if for no other reason than aesthetics. In the last picture below you can see where I marked the leading edge (nose) skin for eventual trimming. This is approximate, per the plans, and must be cut upon installation of the rudder to miss adjacent parts.
