Brief Description:  Plans on the way / polished left wing bottom

After over two months of waiting, my 650 plans are on a UPS truck somewhere between Lenexa, KS and the West Coast. Delivery is scheduled for Wednesday. To say I'm ready to jump back into building would be an understatement. Now that all my airplane stuff is back in our garage, I decided to pull out the left wing, flip it over, and polish the underside. Like riding a bike, it took no time to get back in the flow. I decided to do 5 passes with F9 compound, and 2 with C compound. On visible areas, my standard if 7 or more F9 passes, but the wing bottoms will almost never be seen by anyone. One of the real dangers of polishing is if you catch a loose corner of aluminum with the spinning polishing bonnet. I did, as you can see in the last picture below, but the good news is that (a) it is on the bottom, (b) it is on the inboard edge, and (c) it is an area that will be trimmed back to match the curvature of the fuselage. I haven't measured, but I believe it will all be cut off in trimming. NOTE: Always pay attention to the direction of rotation. With practice, and vigilence around the loose edges, you can make sure that you are buffing over the top of loose edges, not pulling the polishing bonnet into the loose corner.
