Brief Description:  Six month represervation of IO-360 engine.

It has been 6 months since I received my TMX IO-360 engine from Mattituck Services. They say to preserve it for another 6 months I need to add AeroShell 2F preservation oil ($27.95/gal on AeroShell's website) and turn the engine 360 degrees to lube the internal parts and then fog the cylinders using a garden sprayer. To turn the engine over 90, 180, 270, 360 degrees (aileron roll without the airplane) requires about four good helpers since the engine weighs about 286 lbs. Since I had temporarily mounted the engine to the fuselage, the mount was still on the engine. I decided to buy a Harbor Freight engine stand on sale for $35 and fabricate an adapter for the mount instead of maybe hurting our backs or the engine.

Ialso bought some desiccant at Harbor Freight and changed out the plug desiccant with the new stuff. I had priced the desiccant at Texas Air in San Antonio for $1.50 an ounce and then searched Vans Air Force forum and discovered the Harbor Freight deal of 2.2 lbs for $5. It pays to search before you pay outrageous prices. I plan on heating the desiccant in the oven when I have more after a few change outs.
