Brief Description:  Saturated 3 plies of fiberglass to make rear skirt

Saturday was our first day of fiberglass experience!! We had read a few web sites of other builder's experiences so now it was out time to learn. By the way, thanks guys for recording your work on the internet so that others can learn from you.

We decided to tape our first ply to the canopy and fuselage before we added the resin mixture. After mixing the resin and hardner we had only 25 minutes to work with it at 87 degrees. We wanted to put on three plies today and then let them cure overnight. Sunday we would put on the other three plies. The West Marine pump system for the resin and hardner is simple in that there is no weighing or measuring. You just pump one squirt of resin for one squirt of hardner and the mixture is perfect. I mixed 13 squirts of each resin and hardner. We stirred the solution until it was well mixed and then started spreading onto the cloth using pieces of foam rubber that I had laying around. I worked the left side while Charlotte worked the right and lo and behold, after almost exactly 25 minutes we had saturated all three plies just as the mixture started heating and hardening. All that preparation for just 25 minutes of work!!
