Brief Description:  The Odyssey battery box.

Sunday, Charlotte and I decided to delay working on the canopy until we learn some more about bending the frame. Besides, we have another 1000+ things that also need to be accomplished.

The FWF kit that had arrived included the 680 Odyssey battery box. I decided to prepare it to be installed on the firewall. I had to drill lightening holes into the box which is made of steel. I put some wooden blocks spacers into the box and then clamped it down tight to the drill press table. The holes are 2" diameter so I used the hole cutter from my new Rigid hole cutter kit that I had bought at Home Depot. I slowed the rpm on the drill press to its slowest speed (300 rpm) and drilled pilot holes before trying to cut the holes. It was slow going drilling the holes because of the heat and chip buildup. I used Boelube and lifted the press quite often to sweep off the chips and let it cool. It took 1 1/2 hours to cut the 8 holes. I had to deburr the holes which I first tried by using a round file but I quickly went to my die grinder with a cone shaped grinder. Working with steel really makes one appreciate working with aluminum.

Enough for a Sunday afternoon, I'll pick it up tommorrow.
