Brief Description:  Riveted rudder cable fairings.

Today Charlotte and I clecoed the rudder cable fairings to the fuselage over the protective plastic tubes. We used the pneumatic pop-rivet gun to rivet the fairings. Quick and easy!

We then tried to use heat from the heat gun to bend the edge of the empennage fairing down to conform to the horizontal stab mold line. This was a wasted effort because we didn't realize that a few cuts to remove material was needed. We used the Dremel to cut 3 notches perpendicular to the edge near the leading edge. This would allow us to later epoxy four 1" strips of glass cloth under each edge of the fairing to give more thickness to countersink the attach screws. At that time we will use glass beads in epoxy to fill in the notches and place a 10 lb bag of sand over the edge where the "lips" were located to hold them down to follow the horizontal stab mold line, we hope!

We added a heat shield to the #3 exhaust pipe to run the #1 EGT probe wire past the hot pipe. We drilled two small holes (1/16") into the shield and ran some 0.032 safety wire through to tie down the probe wire which was covered with a piece of fire sleeve.
