Brief Description: Installed rudder to vertical stabilzer.
The rudder was easy to hang to the VS. We had made sure the hinge line through the three hinges on the aft spar of the VS was straight. We did this by placing a straight edge on the hinges as we adjusted the position of the forward spar to the attach plate. By making sure the hinge line was straight (no bend in the aft VS spar) before riveting the VS attach plate we assured the rudder hanging would be a non-event.
We only had to adjust the three rod bearings on the rudder in or out slightly (plus or minus a half turn, 1/64"). I had to use a crows foot on my 1/4" rachet extenstion to loosen and tighten the rod bearing jamnuts. Van's dimensions in the manual for adjusting the rod bearings were very close. The rudder swings free and easy.
