Brief Description: Drilled Aileron pushrod and rod ends.
Returned to town on 22 August and rested the next day. On Friday the 24th, Charlotte and I headed to the garage and proceeded to work on the pushrods. I scuffed the insides of the aluminun tubes by pushing a Scotch Brite pad through them a few times (like cleaning my shotgun). The steel tubes were too small a diameter to scuff them on the inside. I then cleaned the large tubes with rag soaked in acetone. I poured acetone into the small tubes and sloshed it back and forth.
I inserted the rod ends into the pushrods after marking where the holes had to be drilled. The 2 solid rivets for the small tubes were 90 degrees to each other, easy. The large tubes used 6 bllind rivets on each end. I used the formula for the chord of a circle to compute the measurement to be marked for each hole. It turned out to be the radius of the tube (0.5645") which I marked 6 times using my calipers, back 1/4" from the tube end. I then drilled the tubes and rod ends using my drill press vise and drill press. I then deburred the holes and scuffed the tubes for priming. Tommorrow I'll rivet and prime.
