Brief Description:  Another day of wheel pant work.

Arriving earlier than usual, we set our sights on trying to finish the wheel pants today. No cigar! We realized that the centerlines that we drew yesterday were not quite right, therefore, we erased and drew them again across the top and bottom this time. This helped us line the pants with the center line of the tire. We finished (we think, maybe not) enlarging the bottom holes around the tires with at least a finger's witdth (5/8"). More cutting around the axles was acomplished. Now it was time to jack up the fuselage!

After jacking the fuselage, we leveled the longerons longitudinally as well as horizontally cross cockpt at the canopy rails to within 0.2 degrees. Now with the main wheels just off the floor we proceeded to attach the aft pants to the axle nut brackets (U-808). We clamped the pant to the bracket using a couple of spring clamps. Then I used the LED light connected to the battery to spot through the bracket holes from the inside-out on the right pant, while Charlotte drew a small circle onto the pant around the point of red light. We did this for two holes, one up and one down. We then removed the pant and drilled the holes. After clecoing the pant through the holes just drilled, we spotted the other two holes on the bracket, then removed the pant and drilled. We did this for the left aft pant also.

After both aft pants were connected to the axle brackets, we settled the gear back to the floor and measured the height from the floor at the aft pant tail center line, and it was right on at 8 5/8". Tomorrow we'll rejack the fuselage and set the horizontal dimensions from the airplane center line chalk line. More than enough for one day.
