Brief Description: Fabricated VOR antenna doubler.
Today I fabricated the VOR antenna doubler. It had been awhile since I had cut, bent, drilled, and riveted. I cut a 6"x4" piece of 0.063" thick aluminum sheet and then bent 2" up at about 90 degrees. After smoothing the edges, I autopuched the hole locations through the graph paper drawing. I then pilot drilled #40 holes on the doubler using the drill press. I positioned the doubler behind the bulkhead and marked two holes on the fuselage bottom skin. I drilled the two #40 holes and clecoed the doubler and then match drilled the remaining holes. I removed the doubler after enlarging the pilot holes to #30 for 1/8" blind rivets. I used the unibit to enlarge the antenna BNC connector hole and the coax cable run hole.
I finally attached the two #10 platenuts for the antenna attach bolts. I will flush blind rivet the doubler to the fuselage (after countersinking the underside of the bottom skin) when my order of countersink CherryMax rivets arrive from Aircraft Spruce.
Doubler match drilled and platenuts riveted on.
Match drilled holes at the bulkhead and on the bottom skin.
