Brief Description:  Trim relay nutplate installs

This log entry is a composite of 12/5, and today, as the beginning and end processes were combined into one log entry. With the horizontal relay locations determined, it was a matter of measuring exactly what height the relays would best go on the rib. The consideration here is that the relays mounted hanging down provide more protection for the wires in case something drops in from the top; it could short the circuit. With the wires coming up from the bottom, this routes the wires under the aileron springs, and they are better protected. How high the relay can be mounted is also a function of the flange mounted at the top of the rib. With the nut plate needing a flat surface, I have to keep the nut plates on the rib or flange, but not both. I also need to use flush rivets to get the dimpler in that tight space. That is also a consideration.

I proceeded to drill the main nutplate bolt attach hole, then I drilled the nutplate rivet holes and debur all holes on both sides. Using the blind rivet dimple tool, I dimpled the rivet holes and then installed the nutplates with blind rivets. An easy process made more difficult by reaching over the side of the fuselage into the bottom of the cockpit.
