Brief Description:  Aileron Bellcranks

The aileron push-pull tubes were inserted in each wing. I discovered that the right aileron bellcrank had not been installed; it was simply sitting in position with the bolt in place. The bellcrank was removed.

I cut off the ends of an AN3 bolt and cleaned up the ends. This was placed in the rod-end bearing hole with the washers on each side. Everything was inserted into the bellcrank and the cut-down bolt was pushed out with the proper bolt. The bearings for each end were properly installed and bolts torqued into position in the bellcrank. I found that the thin 5702-75-60 washers that should have been installed on each side of the bellcrank bearing have gone missing. The bellcrank in the left wing had the correct washers installed. The left bellcrank was removed and one of the washers was placed on the right bellcrank.

During earlier construction (late-90's), the right bellcrank had been modified to accommodate the NavAid wing leveler. Since I could not find any more thin washers, I decided to use AN970-3 washers and enlarge the bolt hole to 1/4". The thin washer had to reside next to the top of the bellcrank because of the mod, but the modified 970-4 washers could be placed on the bottom of each bellcrank. The spacers were shortened appropriately. The right bellcrank was installed and the bolt torqued. The torque tubes were screwed into the bearings.
