I checked the lengths of each clevis from the fuselage skin. I found that the right clevis extended from the fuselage another 1/4'' farther than the left side, 1 1/2'' vs 1 1/4''. Having this measurement and finding instructions that said it would be permissible to trim the forward clevis, up to 1/4'', made me comfortable in marking off the right forward clevis 3/16'' for trimming.
