Brief Description:  Painted Battery Box/Firewall Work

I cleaned up the battery box and painted it with black Rustoleum Gloss Enamel. I riveted the brackets to the sides of the battery box, but had to drill out the nutplates already installed on the brackets in order to rivet the brackets and box together. I drilled the nutplates in position on the relay doubler, countersunk the doubler and riveted the nutplates to the doubler. I used the pop-rivet puller and #40 dimple die set to dimple the firewall for the doubler and countersunk the doubler. The doubler was cleaned up and primed. The doubler was then riveted to the firewall. I countersunk the firewall for the other two nutplates that go on the inside of the angle brackets and riveted those nutplates in position. The master and starter relays were temporarily installed and new lengths of copper bar were cut for the connection. The battery box was screwed into place. The doubler for the brake lines on the firewall was removed, cleaned up and primed. The doubler was then riveted in place. In order to mount the transducer, a rivet had to be drilled out, second one up from bottom on the outboard rib. The hole was then upsized using a #12 bit. The other hole was positioned and drilled through the firewall and rib flange. Holes were deburred and bolts inserted.
