Brief Description:  Decided to Buy Used Sensenich Prop w/Metal Spinner

Spent most of the day investigating whether to purchase a used Sensenich prop with a metal spinner that was advertised on VAF.Net. The prop is a 72FM8S16-1 (87" pitch) with a 4" extension and matching set of prop bolts. The spinner is the Sensenich metal spinner assembly model C2396 which includes both front and back bulkhead and spinner dome, along with all attaching hardware and tinnerman washers. Both are 155 hours since new and in great condition. Coming off an RV-7A and the owner is switching to a constant-speed prop. The seller is Radomir Zavic, Charlotte, NC. The price is $1,850, plus shipping. A new price thru Van's for the prop is $2,135 and the metal spinner from Sensenich is $449, totalling $2,584, a savings of $734.

The 4" extension requires the use of the Sam James cowl and plenum. The Van's cowl uses a 2 1/4" extension. The cowl costs $950, induction kit $130, plenum $450; totalling $1,530.

The total cost of this switch to the SJ cowl will cost $3,380, plus some shipping. I will try to sell the cowl and the spinner. I was planning on buying a prop from Rondure Company for $1,953, so I am getting a metal spinner for free with this purchase.

The pitch of 87" is more of a cruise prop. I was planning on buying a prop with an 85" pitch. I talked with Ed Zurcher, Sensenich, and he estimates that the takeoff roll will be slightly increased and the climb will be 100-200 fpm less than the 85" prop. The cruise speed should be increased by 5-10 mph. Ed said that the warranty will transfer over to me and that they have a liberal warranty policy.
