Brief Description: Finally glassing the nose bottom
It took a couple of weeks to organize three other people to help flip the plane over. Special thanks to John, Darren and Bruce. Next time three of us should do the trick. Its not that heavy yet, but it will always be awkward. It still needs the fuel tanks, roll over, instruments ...oh and an engine...
I first spent a couple of micro cures hard shelling the nose bottom and sanding it smooth and dull. Then another day getting the glass and peel ply all ready. I made a couple of plastic templates to get the sizes right.
First ply was BID overlaping the top side lay up by an inch or so. Then one ply of Innegra which is a lightweight, very strong and tear resistant new material. I used a BID type of pattern: ANG408 woven fabric 4 shaft satin 135g/m2 (from Colon Australia) The idea is that if I ever forget the gear, and then loose the hocky puck on the bottom.... it will slide along on the super tough stuff after grinding through the first layer of BID. hahah I hope to never test it. So thats why this ply doesn't go up the sides as you can see in Pic1
Finally another ply of BID covering things. So I have 3 ply where the plans only have the two. Yet again extra weight that I hope is well spent on my short stubby nose. Pic 3 is the layup done and the whole thing peel plied. Hey I just felt like it.
