Brief Description:  Baggage door

The baggage door went together very smoothly. Once I had everything fitted and deburred I opted to prime the inside with the expectation that the door would be exposed to water from time to time. After riveting it together I installed a lock that I bought from Home Depot. My plan is to install locks with the same tumbler code on the doors so that they’ll all use the same key. The only major hiccup I ran into was the aftermarket seal I bought – it was too thick and firm so that it held the door proud of the surrounding fuse skin and simply latching the door couldn’t compress the seal far enough. So off it came and was replace by a seal I bought at Lowes that has a circular cross-section hollow in the middle that compresses nicely. I also used my hand seamer to slightly bend the edges of the door inward a little. The result of the new seal and the edge treatment is a nicely flush baggage door. The only thing left to do now is figure out a way to seal the gaps that are around the hinge.
