Brief Description:  Upper Forward fuse install

I put off doing this because I wanted unfettered access to the cabin side of the firewall, but in reality I had fallen into a paralysis of indecision. Basically since I was still trying to figure out what all needed to pass through the firewall I was scared to install the upper fuse for fear of creating an access nightmare. In the end, I finally decided to get off the pot and get going. First, I installed some FWF stuff, like the ANL bases and my grounding point “forest of tabs”. I then drilled what I think are the required number of wire penetration holes through the firewall. This cleared the way to go ahead and mount the upper fuse to the main fuse. But before I could proceed I had to finish the upper fuse assembly itself. This consisted of mounting the 2 defrost fans, cutting two wiring pass-through’s in the sub-panel, and cutting the radio stack pass-through in the subpanel. Of these tasks, cutting the big hole for the radios required the most work. The key was locating it with respect to the radio cutout in the instrument panel. I had the radio trays (but not the radios themselves) to help line things up, but I won’t know for sure that I got it right until I have the radios themselves. As the radio cutout in the subpanel is quite large I had to reinforce the edges with alum angle riveted around the perimeter of the hole (the plans have specific guidance on this). I then took the time to cut the holes into the F-1003B Instrument Panel lower flange for the VP-200 switch panel, misc switches, and push-pull cables (ie cabin heat, etc). After that, it was easy enough to attach and rivet the assembly to the fuse with the help of Toni shooting rivets while I bucked. The final thing was to rivet on the F-1003B. The instrument panel can now be installed once I have the wiring done and all of my avionics. One thing I did not do in this section was install hinges used to attach the cowling as I have opted to go with camlocs. They require a mounting strip be riveted where the hinges would go, but I have
