Brief Description:  First engine run.

Dave Brunk and I went to airport early. Located wheel shims for future wheel alignment. Located old seat belts, they look serviceable, but the identifying tags have been removed. Installed pitot tube cover.

Checked oil level (4.5 quarts), initialized EI FP-5 with 4 gallons fuel and set K factor to gold cube standard (33800). Calculated alarm set-points and noted for future entry.

When Bill, Jeanne, and Sam arrived pulled plane out and tied tail to car. Primed one stroke while cranking engine. Mags to both, throttle cracked, started first blade. Ran good, sounded good. Followed overhaul manual procedures for a first run. Stopped short of full 2300 RPM section due to rising cylinder temps measured by IR thermometer. Mags both checked good. Generator putting out. Observed excessive vibration at higher RPM’s.

Oil pressures initially observed as normal, but when engine at peak temp (CHT 425) pressure was low, even indicated zero at idle. Shut down after approx. 20-minute run. Observed and noted several minor oil leaks. Made list of diagnostic steps to be followed next.
