Brief Description:  Tach cable failed.

Stopped at FBO and picked up transponder Chris had brought in. It is a KT76, not “A” model. Don’t think it is tray compatible. On test flight old unit tests OK, also lights up reply light when Ident pushed. But still no joy from approach control.

Took short test flight. Tach went wacky, then squealed, then stopped working entirely. Assume old cable failed. Should put in a new one with new tach anyway. Returned to NY0 and began removing old cable. Will measure today and order from AS. Old one was too long, had too many bends, probably that contributed to failure, although could have just been age related.

Voltage still a little low at cruise, in the 13-volt range. Will adjust upwards a bit more to get closer to 13.8.

Cockpit very breezy and c-c-c-cold. Turned on cockpit heater, produced good heart. Need to seal up around wing roots for cold weather flying.
