Brief Description:  Test Starter Action

A frustrating day for sure. I successfully timed the impulse coupled left Mag which completed the timing process for both the electronic and mag systems. I had previously mounted the SkyTec XLT starter so I proceeded to wire it up for testing. I am close to engine start. I pulled all plugs and proceeded to try to spin the prop. The engine previously had been oil- filled and lubed in anticipation of starting.
Pressed the START button and no joy. The starter chattered alot and did move the prop 20 to 30 degrees. Prop stopped moving and chattering noise continued. I could repeat that process with same failed result so I wrote HET (Hartzell, who bought Sky-Tec). They reviewed a video and pictures and asked that I send it in. Accomplished that today.
The starter (Sky-Tec XLT 149 tooth 12V) was purchased new in 2013 and installed this month.
I am imagining some type of corrosion involved. We'll see.
I have been helping a friend finish his RV6 build and was envious when his XLT spun his engine just fine.
I have other work to do in the meantime.
