Brief Description:  Fuel Tank Root Rib Install

Well I finally finished the fuel tank ribs. What a relief!! The root rib #6 has a reinforcing plate in the tip, a thick fuel tank attach angle opposite the reinforcing tip on the same rib, a fuel vent line attachment and a bunch of hand squeezed rivets. I installed the rib first without the reinforcing plate or tank attach angle, although all those were drilled and prepared for seven AN470AD4-7 rivets. The hand squeezing was a pleasure. However, keep attention to the placement of the squeezer as it still can slip around on the proseal. Also, when squeezing, you need to be sure you squeeze enough to make the flush head settle into the dimple all the way around. I found several that needed an extra squeeze to fit properly. Then I installed the fuel vent line fitting with a spacer washer inside between the rib and the attach nut. Later plan drawings show this fitting to be installed lower on the rib, kind of inside the large circle beneath the current location. However, the shown location is satisfactory. The attach nut and flare nut get torqued to 50 inch lbs. I used a crows foot open end attachment on the torque wrench which required a resetting of the torque to 44 inch lbs based on standard torque formulas. Then I dabbed some proseal across the flare nut to secure it for sure. As you can see I prosealed the spacer washer and attach nut as well to seal this opening.
The tank attach angle outside the rib got a proseal bath too so that area including the attach rivets are permanently sealed. It took 99 grams (90 white, 9 black) to do this rib, but I had maybe 15 grams left over. I contemplated using it to proseal the access plate in place, but decided not to do it until later. The 1st fuel tank used a cork gasket. I will use proseal on this one and we'll see how well both hold up.
