Brief Description:  Set height for front vertical stabilizer. Drilled

Set height of front of vertical stabilizer. Used the string from the rear hinge to front of fuselage to get proper distance equil from left to right. This process will get the center of the vertical stabilizer tracking center with the fuselage. After equil measurements were acheived, I drilled the front of the mounting bracket to the horizontal. I cound only drill the lower holes, as I was in need of a tight space angle drill to reach the other holes.These holes were thru the vertical mount and the horizontal. I plan to remove the vertical assembly and rivet the bracket to the vertical stabilizer, then remount and bolt the riveted bracket to the Horizontal. Much easier to rivet the bracket off the plane on a work bench. Before removing the vertical stabilizer, I mounted the left and right elevators to determine necessary spacers for the control horn. I at this time decided to level the elevators and drill for the elevator pushrod location. I leveled the elevators. The control horn was out a little, after leveling for and aft, but only a 1/6th of an inch. I measured for the pushrod to the aft most control horn and drilled one side. I made a spacer block from hardwood and drilled a hole with the drill press to make for centering the opposite hole when drilling. I placed the spacer between the control horns, centered with the first hole. Clamped in place and drilled the opposite control horn. All this was done with the elevators set to neutral with clamps. Note; before drilling the control horns, I checked the elevators trailing edge for alignment. Siince I had previously made a 22 guage shim to level the horizontal to the fuselage, the trailing edge of the elevators are in perfect alignment.
