Today's task was the installation of the Jury struts.
The front jury struts were pretty much a non-event. They went in just as they should, and when checking the main strut for straightness with an 8 foot level I found that adding a thin washer under the special bolt was perfect.
As some others that I have heard from, I had the rear jury struts powder coated before I knew the manual called for the bottom end to be trimmed to fit. To avoid leaving an end that needed touch up I decided a good alternative would be to relocate the hole at the top end, which is covered up by the flap cable exit cover. To give myself some room for error, I added a thick washer under the special bolt in the rear main strut before I drilled the rear jury strut to fit. This would allow me remove or replace this washer if needed to get the main strut straight. Then I drilled and mounted the lower end of the jury strut, and with my 8 foot level in place, located the new hole for the upper end. It worked perfectly!
I got out my construction laser to locate the hole in the flap cable cover to pass the rear jury strut. My laser is on camera tripod, so I can turn it and adjust it to point in almost any direction. I started at the rear of the plane, and with the jury strut in place, but not the cover, I lined up the laser along the strut centerline. Then, with the top end of the strut moved out of the way, I put the cover back in place and marked where the laser hit the cover. I repeated this from the side, which gave me an "X" to mark the hole location. Tracing around the end of the jury strut centered on the "X", and allowing for some clearance yielded the hole I needed.
Next up is the flaps - They are hanging too low and I keep walking into them, so I am going to hook them up and raise 'em....
