Brief Description: Filled Glued Edges and Installed Pitot Tube.
Filled and sanded the glued edges and installed the Dynon pitot tube.
Comments:
* I always put too much filler on, and then pay the price with lots and lots of sanding. The Superfil was pretty thick (like a milkshake that can't be sucked through a straw) and I found it a little hard to spread and feather to a thin edge. After the initial application and sanding I decided to do another application to fill in some low areas. For this second round I put a couple of drops of denatured alcohol in the superfil mixture until it resembled creamy peanut butter. It was much easier to spread this time. I only worked with the mixture for about 20 minutes, but I had to add a few drops of alcohol a couple of times to maintain the buttery texture. After sanding I was left with less filler than I was expecting, but I can't feel the edge and it feels smooth, so I think I have it right.
* I stole Glenn Mathis's method of mounting the Dynon pitot probe (and I think Glenn stole it from Mark Pringle...) I added a dab of JB weld between the bracket and the spar to help stiffen up the assembly.
