Brief Description:  Fabricated New GPS Mount.

I had previously fabricated a mount that located the Dynon GPS antenna behind the baggage compartment and under the fabric. In reading through the literature for the newly released 2020 compliant antenna I decided a couple of things 1) Since I had already paid for the non-compliant version I am thinking I will probably try to use it as long as possible. I have a sport pilot ticket without endorsements or desire (currently) to fly in class B, C, or D, so I would technically be legal as I understand it, but there are recent announcements that the traffic feature might not be supported, which is something I want to have. 2) The Dynon literature states that if the new GPS antenna is painted it will lose its compliance ratings.

The previous mount would make it very difficult to change the antenna at a later date, and would not ensure compliance with the new antenna located below the fabric and paint, so I felt it would be a good idea to develop a new mount to place the antenna on top of the fabric opposite the location provided for the ELT antenna.

I used a couple of stainless steel P clamps from McMaster-Carr. Masking tape was used to make sure the mount would be in contact with the covering fabric. I used the ELT mount as reference and mounted the antenna about 1.25" behind the existing rivet location to allow for the skylight and trim strip. As with the factory ELT mount, the final rivet will be installed when the skylight and trim strip are fastened in place.
