Brief Description:  Glued Upper Root Skins.

Glued The Root Skins To Spars.

* This was pretty easy after gaining experience gluing the leading edge wrap. I got everything for both wings ready to go and completed all four bond areas within the working time of the glue after opening the fresh tube.

* For the rear I left out the rearmost rivets on each side which allowed the rear edge to be lifted to apply the glue. Once the glue was applied I installed the remaining rivets including the ones into the rear spar and applied the tape to hold it tight. This area is easy - peasy since the skin does not have to bend and gravity does not make the glue run.

* For the front I used the clamps again. I had cut a board the width of the root skin, but I should have made it a few inches longer on each side. The lower root skin interferes with the clamp placement, and having a few extra inches of board would allow a pair of clamps to be placed outside of this area.

* I found that the skin lifted from the root rib about 1/16" (or maybe just a little more) This area was hidden by the waxed paper so I didn't catch it when I was clamping things in place or I would have fixed it then. In hindsight, I would have used some of the VHB tape in this area and made sure it was tight when the clamps were applied. As it is, it is not bad enough to re-do, and I am expecting it will be un-detectable on the finished plane, so it will become a part of the character that makes this plane uniquely mine.....

* For reference; I used three tubes of DP460. One for each leading edge wrap and one for the four root skin bond areas. I believe that if the root skins and wraps were done at the same time you could get away with two tubes, but the glue would have to be applied sparingly and in an accurate location. I had a forth tube available, and I found great comfort in having this option waiting in the wings. -- It would suck to get the glue half applied and then run out....
