Installed the fuel tank mounts. Riveted the root skin stiffeners in place and fit the skins to the wing. drilled the fill hole in the tanks.
Comments:
* There is no mention in the manual to dimple the holes on rib #2, but this needs to be done to match the root skin dimple pattern.
* I also had to drill and dimple a hole in the front top flange of each rib #1 and #2 to match the hole pattern of the skins.
* A few of the stems on the flush rivets left a sharp point that protruded above the rivet, so I touched each one with a die grinder/scotch brite wheel.
* If the ribs are installed before the tank mounts, use clekos only for ribs #1 and #2. These two ribs need to be moved out of the way to access the tank mount area.
* Access to the rear tank mount rivet is limited, and my 90 degree drill would not fit. I used a long 1/8" bit to drill this hole. I passed the bit through a piece of aluminum tubing so it would not rub on the interfering compression strut, and then curved the bit as much as I thought was reasonable to get the straightest hole possible.
* I had a couple of flush rivets that didn't pull tight. I fixed these by laying a length of steel bar on the bench, flipping the skins over and centering the offending rivet over the bar, and then tapping the back side of the rivet with a hammer. I think I will try the next set of rivets with a hand gun instead of my pneumatic gun to see if that eliminates any loose rivets.
