Day two of my Wings weekend! I finished putting the ribs in the second wing and riveted everything in place.
Comments:
* I spent a lot of time getting the aileron bell cranks to rotate as freely as possible. When I first tightened the hardware they got a little stiff. Although they would have worked fine, I sometimes can't leave well enough alone, so after lots of messing around I found that if I slipped a thin washer on the top and bottom of the compression tube (effectively spreading the bearing blocks), I could achieve nearly frictionless motion. I used the same hardware as specified in the manual, just relocated the washers. On the outboard bolts I eliminated the thin washer on the top to keep from compressing the bearing blocks to the point where friction started to appear.
* Rib #8 has a lot going on. I made sure it fit well before riveting anything. The first thing to rivet is the bottom stringer at rib #8.
* This was a fun assembly. It went together fairly easily, and a large amount of visual progress is made so it is a very rewarding part of the project.
