Brief Description: Started the Wings
|
|
Started working on the wings by installing the doublers, wing channels, and trailing edge mounts.
Comments:
* I found that the holes in the wing strut attach plates did not match. When I lined up the outside edges, I had two pairs that were identical, but the holes in one pair did not line up with the other pair. A phone conversation with Ed has a new set on it's way to me.
* My kit came with a notice that the trailing edge spars had been drilled at a slight angle, and the internal bushings and trailing edge mounts need to accommodate this angle. I accomplished this by first cutting and filing a tubing bushing to fit. Measuring this tube showed that the ends needed a 6.5 degree angle, so I set my sander up to rough in the remaining parts, and used a file to achieve the final fit.
* It seems so obvious, but make sure a right and a left wing is made. I went over this several times and had put labels on using masking tape, but just before drilling the doublers I noticed I was set up to make two right wings.... (DOH!) I had everything in place and correctly labeled, but I had the left spars upside down. I caught it before any damage to my pride was done (other than admitting it here) - But it was close....
