I was reading on Dynon's forum that Version 6.0 for the Skyview will display / support COMM in and out for the Garmin SL30/40 series radios. That sparked my interest to see if the "New" Garmin GTR225 Comm would talk to the Skyview. I called around and scored a .pdf of the Garmin GTR225 installation manual. The harness that comes with the GTR is not pinned out for RS232 Tx/Rx.
The manual spelled out exactly what I needed... Pin 1 - Tx Pin 16 - Rx Pin 31 - RS232 Gnd. Fabricated a 3 conductor shielded / Grounded wire harness per the Garmin Installation manual. Fortunately I have a contact that has the micro crimper for the small barrel pins. Added the new wires to the original harness and connected it to the Skyview serial port 2... Set up both the SV and GTR to NMEA format, at 9600 baud... and data started to flow.
SV fireware version 6.0 is due out in June, I am confident the SV and GTR will work fine together.
