Back at it...

I have the hanger about ready, or as ready as it will be for now.
I wanted to get the cowling fitted before moving the plane to the hanger.
The plan is to move the wings and tail surfaces over Thanksgiving,
followed by the fuselage the first week of December.

I have been taking care of some of the paperwork over the past week.
Updating my insurance to include movement / taxi.
I just received the "Bill of Sale" (FAA Form 8050-2) from Van's.

Last night I made the initial fitting of the top cowling. I have the Whirlwind spacer and spinner installed, so I can get the final fitting in place and ready for the prop.

I began by laying the upper cowling in place, and setting a 3/8" gap to the spinner.
The cowling overlapped the firewall by about an 1-1/2". I trace a line on the upper fuselage using the cowling as a guide. I marked 12 key measuring points on both the fuselage and cowling. I removed the cowling and measured each reference mark from the traced line to the firewall leading edge. I then tranferred these measurements to the cowling and made the initial cut.

The cowling fit nicely with a touch of sanding here and there... using a 16" flat sanding block with 80 grit paper. I then lined everything up exactly the way I wanted it, clamped / taped it in place. Using a flash light from underneath, eluminated the CAMLOC mounting holes and pilot drilled as required.
