Brief Description: Fabricated External Dimple Dies
I have needed an external dimple die for some time now. Every where I looked $35 here $50 there etc.
I came across one die that cost $59, but as I looked at the design, it seemed very easy to make. All I had to do was find an old rivet set... that I have.
I centered the set straight up on my drill press; drilled a 3/16" hole about 1/2" deep. Inserted the dimple die, and ok, half of the issue solved. Next, I found a bucking bar that I have more than one of... again drilled a 3/16" x 1/2" hole. Inserted the matching die... did a couple of test dimples and decided it worked just fine.
Rivet gun pressure was low around 20psi, just enough to dimple the metal. You can tell it's complete by the sound of the dies seating together.
