Turned the engine upright... I let the sealant for the case set up over the past few days. I was presented with a small challenge... When I was installing and torquing the nut for the idler shaft stud depicted in photo #2 it began pulling out of the case... The heli-coil was turning in the case. bummer or blessing? Since I look at most things optimistically... I am certainly glad I discovered this now, and not at 10,000 ft... enough said...
Removed the old heli-coil, dressed out the hole, went to AeroMech parts shop for a replacement 5/16-18 heli-coil and barrowed the insertion tool... Threaded the hole and inserted the heli-coil... Turned out really nice and solid... Called Lycoming and wanted them to explain why a stud was required... They basically said it wasn't and to use a 5/16-18 bolt as all the other mounting hardware.
Long story short... the repair went great and the bolt is installed, torqued and safety wire... You thought I was taking a break, huh?
