Brief Description:  Install Crankshaft Seal Retainer Brackets & Snorke

I got the last bolt that I needed for installing the crankshaft seal retainers so I finished off installing the final bolt. I then torqued the bolts to 50 in/lbs using a crowsfoot wrench. It was a little awkward on a couple bolts but I got them all torqued to spec.

Next was the safety wire job. There are two retainers, one on the left and one on the right. Each retainer has three bolts so I decided that I would safety all three together in series on each side.
The room to work on safty wiring the bolts is cramped but there is enough access to feed and pull the wire through the holes. The process took a while but finally was done.

I decided to install the crankshaft seal retainers because I was flying an airplane on a cross country trip and had the seal come loose and made a mess with oil leaking out. Everything worked out and I landed without incident...but it could have turned out far differently! The maintenance shop that repaired it stated that the seal did not have enough glue on it. They cleaned and reglued the seal and I had no problems on the way home. Many aircraft are flying without the retainers but since I received some with my Superior engine.....I decided to install them......the added safety factor won't hurt.

I went back to the snorkel and started dimpling and countersinking the brackets and the snorkel for riveting the filter brackets.
