Brief Description:  Sand Wingtips and Fiberglass Rivet Lines

Since the SuperFil was cured I went out and got the areas sanded and blended on the wingtips. I then took time to sand the rivet lines where the hinges were installed so I can fiberglass over them.

I still have some 3/4 oz paper thin fiberglass material that Rick turned me on to buy and I cut strips out of it that would cover the rivet heads. The thin fiberglass is a bit of a challenge to work with expecially for strips since they are so static electricity prone and want to stick on you. The best way that I found to use them is by cutting them and then setting them in place dry and wetting them with epoxy by dripping the epoxy on with a popcicle stick or brush. I chose to use the popcicle stick and spread it out with it afterward. By dripping epoxy onto the cloth it holds the fiberglass in place.

When I got the cloth in place and it was wetted I took my 2 inch roll of peel ply and patted it over the fglass. I squeegeed it down with my finger to make sure there were no bumbs and used a bondo paddle to run over the peel ply.

The results came out excellent. Now I will sand a bit and lay some Smooth prime over the area and other areas that I filled and sanded.
