Brief Description:  Flaps and Elevators

Got home Friday evening from being the week down in Venice Florida having to take care of some business. My plan was to get back to fiberglass sanding and finish priming as it looked like the weather was going to be decent.....other than the wind. Rob texted that he was available to work on Saturday so I changed plans and we met at the hangar.

Rob had it in mind to tackle the flaps which needed extra hands so I would assist when needed or play gopher. I didn't realize that there had to be a big cut on the inboard of the flap to fit to the fuselage (I hadn't read up on it since that was not on my next item to do list) but Rob started making the lines and calculations. The cut is a bit of a compound curve so Rob made a lot of cut lines to sneak up to the final cut. He finally completed the cut on the left side and made a template that he used to mirror and mark the right side. Of course he kept away from the line to fit it but it made for a good reference. By the end of the day both flaps were trimmed....more to do in next session.

In between helping Rob I worked on attaching the elevators. Both elevators were attached but the points of variation are the bearing block attach points and the rod end attach points These require washers...or spacers. I took my feeler gages and measured the gaps. Bearing block needed a .135/.175 spacers. For the rod ends I got the dimension and split it in half. It sure made it better than fiddling with washers!!! Elevators connected.

A good day in the shop.....Thanks Rob!!!
