Brief Description:  Wing Set and Attach

We moved the fuselage to the hangar last weekend and had what we needed to get the wings drilled and set in place so we had the crew of experts back this Saturday to get the job done (except for Jim....when he heard we were going to put the wings on he loaded up the camper and family and headed for two weeks in Florida....probably how long he figured it would take us!!!)

Anyway there is a LOT to do to get the wing sweep and incidence set and drilled. (Note: I was personally hoping the project could be totally completed without any incidences.....but apparantly it cannot be!)

We set plumbobs and squared the wings and then determined whether we had forward or rearward sweep. The rear spar attach brackets were hitting the inboard wing flange of the rib so we knew we had to remove material from the fuselage brackets. We discussed and Ralph measured and I cut. Put the wings back on. We sought to measure the sweep but kept chasing the sweep. Finally someone came up with the idea wo measure over the rear spar from the fuse skin to the wing skin and we set them both the same. We made calculated adjustments in 1/8 inch increments which made it so much easier to see what is happening with each adjustment. Doing so we got the sweep set to basically perfect. Next we set the incidence which went quickly.
Finally I drilled the rear spars. It was a very long day....12 hours from 1000-2200hrs.

So much thanks to Rob, Ralph and Dustin for once again making this "a most excellent day!"
