Brief Description:  Canopy glue-1

Started early this AM—sanded the front of the canopy, then went over the entire canopy again with 400 grit—all edges are nice and smooth. Next, I removed the tape inside the canopy that I had put in place while sanding. Cleaned the dust and dropped the frame in—secured with 6 clecos. Marked a line just above the frame on the inside of the canopy for tape. Removed the frame, and ran first line of tape inside canopy. Then I attacked the canopy with a maroon pad—scuffed it up real well. Cleaned up and ran a second line of tape just overlapping the first tape by about 1/16”. Moved the canopy onto the turtle deck and put the frame on the work table. Removed and re-taped the aft portion of the frame where the tape had fused together (presumably from high temps). Cut a handful of rubber spacers to 3/16” square (rubber was 3/16” thick, but will compress to 1/8”). I bought this sheet (1 square foot) from McMaster Carr, but if I was doing it again, I would just use some of the 1/8” hose that I previously cut for spacers. I glued the little block of rubber around the frame with contact cemet. Then tested with a piece of scrap plexi—clamps squashed it to about 1/16”. So, removed them and cut a bunch of squares from what was previously my spacers—glued them to the frame. Cleaned up the shop while waiting for my assistant (Nancy) to return from some errands. She’s back and the FUN BEGINS! Wiped down the exposed plexi and frame with the Sika 205 cleaner. Well, that was easy. After the 10 minute wait time, Nancy and I both brushed on the Sika 209d primer. Not quite as easy, but ok. While waiting the 30 minutes after applying primer, we placed the frame inside the canopy and secured with the 6 clecos. Then I began clamping the canopy at all the locations that had a spacer. Some of the clamps wanted to jump off and had to be retrieved from various hiding places in the shop. Finished with the clamps and waited just a bit for the 30 minutes to expire. ---Contiuned--
