Brief Description:  Attach HS to Fuselage 2: Drill horn hole

I measured the hole location on the most reward horn and drilled it 1/8 or #30.
Then I made a block of hard wood, Oak, and drilled a 1/8 hole perpendicular to the surfaces using my drill press. Actually I drilled two because the first one didn't measure perpendicular. It is harder to make a really perfect straight perpendicular hole because things move. The table can be off. The wood can move and the drill bit can bend. But with it well clamped and drilling with a slow feed I got a pretty straight hole.

Then I clamped the block between the horns and drilled thru trying to make the 1/8 hole in the other horn in exactly the same spot. Well I got it close. There was play in the wood, play in the flexibility of the horns and aluminum elevators and play in the hole with the bit. The wood helped and my holes will do but I'm dissappointed in the in-accuracy.

I enlarged the hole by drilling successive holes with ever enlarging bits rather than using the step drill. Also I left the block in for this enlarging.

1) Lesson learned, make the block really big with a very tight fit to get rid of play so hole goes thru straight, straight, straight. Or us a metal block or angle or something. Maybe a metal tub that has its ends made parallel on a drill press.

2) Lesson learned, I'd make the hole slightly 1/16 inch higher than he drawing just to ensure good edge distance from the bottom edge of the horn.
