Brief Description: Alternate Air Door/oil line conflict, Part 1
Problem: The alternate air door, when pulled open, swings into the #2 cylinder oil return line. A local Vans builder/tinkerer friend helped me with the solution.
I visited a local locomotive components manufacturer, who has tons of scrap metal of all types: In this case, he had galvonized conduit junctions that had the perfect outside diamater to fit inside the air base plate's inside diamater. Through his assistance and welding talents, we cut off about a 3/4" section of the conduit, welded on two tabs for rivet holes, then grinded an angle/bevel into one face of the section. This riser ring fits into the mouth of the base plate. The door plate fits flush against the surface of the riser ring... (see next entry)
