Brief Description: Drilling gear holes, aligning the weldments
|
|
Next we installed the main landing gear weldments to the forward fuselage. These bolt onto the wing spar and to the fuselage side walls
Took some time trimming additional metal from the two holes so that the weldment mated appropriately into the hole and up against the wing spar.
Then, on the bench, we inserted each landing gear leg into its weldment, aligned the top bolt hole, and matchdrilled both to the proper radius.
Then, with a huge amount of Houston's help, we mounted each weldment in place. Houston's arms are just a tad thinner than mine, so he saved the day getting nuts onto the AN-4 bolts deep down between the main spars.
Tighten, torque, LocTite.
