Brief Description: Engine problems
|
|
There are continuing problems with starting the engine. I found an air leak in the primer line, and corrected it. Ther engine would turn over, and sound as though it would like to start, and would eventually backfire.
I tried checking the timing, but with no good result. I did find some of the plug leads were too short. I temporarily replaced these with locally-precured leads. When we get the engine running, these will be replaced with the manufacturer-recommended leads. By some chance, the manufacturer is the only source of these :-)
This did not fix the problem, but it must surely be a step in the right direction.
At this point, I noticed gax dripping from the carby after an attempt at a start. I checked the variouis lines, to see if either the gas r the primer had a leak at that point. No, they did not, which left either the float valve or the needle valve in the carby.
While I have the manuals on this carby, and in theory could overhaul it, I don't fully trust myself in this area. I sent it off to a carby shop, which reported that the interior of my supposedly newly overhauledf carby was filthy.
Note to self: be careful what you buy on eBay. It's pretty obvious the overhaul was a paint overhual, and nothi8ng more.
But with my newloy overfauled carby, the engine still would not start.
