Brief Description:  Fit top cowl

Long day today but the top cowl is nearly where I want it. I spent a lot of time slowly trimming two pieces of aluminum bolted to the front cylinder baffle holes until the fit at the spinner is what I wanted. I am allowing for just a slight bit of sag. It seems some get significant engine sage after the first 50-100 hours and some don’t I figure if I get more sage then I will add some washers under the lower mounts to move the engine back into position.

Once I was happy with the fit I marked the cut line from the 2” reference line I and drawn yesterday. Then it was more repetitive work. I made the initial cut of the aft cowl with some shears then sanded test fit, sanded test fit… this seemed like forever but it was only 3 hours. I still have a little fine tuning to do but I was so tired I called it a day.

I am fitting right to the firewall and I will drill to the hinge this way. After I have it all drilled I will sand the 1/16” paint gap called out for in the plans. I hope my time spent on the upper cowl will make the lower cowl go much faster. I am sure I am just being overly anal about all this stuff, but that is how I roll!
