Brief Description:  Riveted on upper hinge

I primed the upper cowl hinge on the upper and lower side of the hinge but not the hinge pins, login is part of this area will get painted with the aircraft. I just wanted some corrosion protection between the stainless firewall flange and the hinge.

I worked out while the primer dried then rivet on the hinge. When I installed the pass through for the wires at the top of the firewall I did not take into account the fact the eyes on the hinge would hang down. Due to this I could not get to two rivets with the squeezer or bucking bar. I had some small head cherry rivets the correct size so I set these two holes with them.

The hinge installs with the original sized pin just fine, the .090 pin with the kit seems way too small for the size holes, I may do what some have done and use the .120 pin but shave the ends that make the sharp curve, and this would minimize puckering at the hinge line when going fast.

I had hoped the hinge would hold the firewall at the baggage door from flopping forward, it helps but I still get some movement. I will have to keep I taped in position for the cowl fitting and hope the cowl will hold things in place, otherwise I will have a wider than desired gap at the lower right part of the baggage door.
