Brief Description:  Sanded skirt and test fit

Had a good day in the shop today, I feel like I can see light at the end of the tunnel on the canopy skirt. I started by washing off the skirt with water and a scotch brite pad. I think some of my issues have to do with amine blush that the resin forms after cure. I really can’t see it but from my reading it is there.

I then sanded down the skirt, I am pleased with the finish and don’t see any pinholes left, of course I will need a coat of primer to reveal the tough ones. I need to mark the upper edge of the skirt on the canopy so I clecoed the skirt in place. I had planned to use some fat fishing line as a spacer for the Sika adhesive but took that off to see how things fit. The upper edge had a nice tight fit all the way around except in one spot. I sanded down the shim in that area and fine tuned the fit. The spacer is needed so there is a void for the glue to sit, but the upper edge of the skirt is concave on the inside so I think I can get by without the fishing line spacer, but I will have to think on this a while.

Last thing I did was clean up the dust off the canopy and apply electrical tape marking the upper edge of the skirt. Just like when gluing the canopy to the frame, I want multiple layers of tape so I can get a nice clean edge with the Sika.
