Brief Description:  Conected 496 to intercom

Started out today installing the 3.5mm stereo plug I picked up. I solder the wires and then test fit with the Garmin 496 GPS in the dock. This will send the audio from the 496 through the Intercom Music 1 input. With XM weather you can pay a little more and get XM music, this will pipe stereo music to the headsets but by going via the intercom, it is smart enough to know when you are sending or receiving over the radio, it automatically mutes the music input.

I next pulled the 6 wires that are for the trim indications. The Dynon harness was set up for trim indications, I had originally planned to splice the wires I installed into the Dynon harness but decided it was easy enough to pull out the wires and just use the wires from the harness.

I had already pulled the unused wires from the DB37 connector to the Dynon 180 but had to do the same for the DB25s for the D10A and D180. Well the connector for the D10A was a bear; I broke two extractor pins trying to get the wires out. I learned not all DB25 connectors are the same, these pins usually come out easy but not this one. The shields for the remote compass and the altitude encoder where sliced together, when I cut it one of the 4 wires to the remote compass was caught up in the shield and I accidentally cut it. My altitude information to the transponder is coming from the D180 so I don’t need these wires in the 10A and the audio and serial wires are not needed. I called it a day after getting the pins out.
