Brief Description:  Fabricating battery holder

I drilled the 4 holes for #6 screws to hold the remote compass to its bracket. I still need to find brass or nylon fittings to make this connection since ferrous metals will interfere with the compass.

I moved onto the battery tray. Since I am putting the battery in the forward baggage floor I need to build a holder for the battery. I am copying an idea a builder sent me which he copied from rvwoody.com. I stared with two pieces of “Z” angle from Van’s, same angle used for the fuel tank attachment to the wing spar. I drilled some pilot holes which will be used to fasten the angle to the floor. I clecoed this to some MDF to keep things aligned and square. I cut out a base from a sheet of .063 and drilled pilot holes and then match drilled the base to the top portion of the “Z” angle. I stopped here; I need to pick up some ¾” angle for the sides. I am keeping the width the same as the Van’s battery holder so I can use the same hold down bar that goes on top of the battery. The pictures show the progress. I plan to drill 3-4 lightening holes in the base sheet to save a few ounces.
